How scoring works

Family Safety Match — what's in the formula

Each neighborhood gets a 0-to-100 score on every factor (crime, schools, school-walk, parks, walkability, offender distance). Your slider weights are normalized so they sum to 1.0. Final fit score = sum of (factor score × normalized weight). We show the top 5 with the two factors that drove each score the most.

Crime score — what we measure

Property + violent crime density (per 1,000 residents over the past 12 months) drawn from Tucson PD's ArcGIS open-data feed, normalized against the city average. Each crime is geocoded and bucketed by category (FBI UCR codes). Higher score = safer. Last refresh date shown on every neighborhood page.

School quality score

State of Arizona school report cards (academic composite, growth, graduation rate) blended with federal Civil Rights Data Collection signals (chronic absenteeism, school-based arrests + restraint). Higher score = stronger schools. Each underlying number is shown with source and year on the neighborhood report.

Walk-to-school route safety

If you provide your child's school, we route home→school block by block (OSRM/Valhalla) and score the path on pedestrian-crash density (state DOT crash data), share of signalized vs unsignalized crossings, sidewalk coverage (OpenStreetMap), and lighting. No competitor publishes this score.

Privacy — what we store about your match

Nothing, unless you tell us to. Slider settings and the school name (if entered) run locally in your browser. No backend save unless you click "Save match" (coming soon). No tracking pixels, no Google Analytics, no broker resale. Aggregate cookieless analytics only.
